All That's Left to You

Ghassan Kanafani · 1966 CE · Novel · Arabic · Contemporary

A brother sets out on foot across the Negev toward Jordan to reach the mother he has not seen since 1948, while the sister he leaves behind in Gaza faces a family that has learned she is pregnant. Their two nights run in parallel, cut between them and narrated in turn by the desert and by a clock. Kanafani gave the landscape and the hour voices of their own, and the book is the formal experiment of his short career.
