Dido, Queen of Carthage
Storm-driven Trojans come ashore at a city still being built, and its queen, worked on by Venus and a god disguised as a child, takes the wandering prince into her bed and her plans. He has an errand in Italy, and gods who keep reminding him of it. Marlowe and Thomas Nashe translate long stretches of Virgil directly, and open on Olympus with Jupiter dandling Ganymede.
