The Aeneid
Fleeing the sack of Troy with his father on his back and his household gods in hand, Aeneas is driven across the Mediterranean toward a country he has never seen. A queen of Carthage takes him in, and he is called away again into a war in Italy against the people whose land he is fated to settle. Duty over desire, written to give Rome a Homeric past.
