Hero and Leander
A priestess of Venus at Sestos and a youth from the far shore of the Hellespont see each other at a festival and cannot get past the water between them, so he swims it in the dark. Marlowe follows the Greek of Musaeus, which is not in this index, but slows almost to a stop over the descriptions, and a lecherous Neptune interrupts the crossing. He left the poem unfinished at his death; George Chapman completed it and published both parts together.
