England, England
A tycoon buys the Isle of Wight and installs on it a half-scale England — Stonehenge, Robin Hood, the royal family, Dr Johnson at lunch — on the reasoning that visitors would always rather have the replica than the tiring original. His head of concept development, a woman who has never trusted her own earliest memory, watches the hired actors begin to take their parts seriously. The old country meanwhile empties out and reverts, and the satire turns into something nearer a lament.
