Fen
Women pick potatoes and stones out of a Cambridgeshire field owned through a chain of companies by a business in the City, and Val leaves her husband and two daughters for Frank, who drives the tractor. Ninety unbroken minutes move between the gang, the packing shed, a Baptist meeting and the dead who have not left the land. Churchill wrote it for Joint Stock after weeks of living in the Fens and talking to the women who work them, drawing on Mary Chamberlain's oral history Fenwomen.
