Mad Forest

Caryl Churchill · 1990 CE · Play · English · Contemporary

Two Bucharest families, one of painters and one of doctors, live around a wedding they cannot afford under Ceaușescu, with the radio turned up so the neighbours cannot hear them talk. The middle section hands the stage to a student, a soldier, a priest, a translator and a bulldozer driver, each describing the December days in turn, and the last part returns to the wedding with an angel, a vampire and a talking dog among the guests. Churchill made it with students from the Central School after taking them to Romania in the spring of 1990.
