Frog
Tadpole, a playwright, writes in letters about his aunt Gugu, a village midwife who becomes the enforcer of China's one-child policy in Gaomi county. Her zeal and the abortions and deaths it causes catch up with her. A play closes the book, and it won the Mao Dun Prize after the author's Nobel.
