Pow!
In a temple, a young man from a village whose economy rests on slaughtering and selling meat tells an old monk the story of his life. Through the telling the novel follows the village's lurch from collective poverty to boisterous commerce. Among Mo Yan's more farcical books, it takes the confessional monologue as its whole form.
