Joe Turner's Come and Gone

August Wilson · 1986 CE · Play · Modern / American · Contemporary

A Pittsburgh boarding house in 1911 fills with people who came north with no address to go to: a rootworker looking for a shiny man he met once on a road, a peddler who finds missing relatives for a fee, a silent man and his daughter. Herald Loomis spent seven years on Joe Turner's chain gang and is hunting the wife who left while he was taken. Wilson thought it his best work, and it reaches furthest back of anything in the cycle.
