Le Morte d'Arthur
Malory gathers the scattered French and English romances into one prose history, running from the sword in the stone to the Round Table at its height. The middle books follow Lancelot, Tristram and Gareth, then the Grail quest that empties the court of its best knights, while Lancelot's love for the queen works away at Camelot from inside. The source nearly every later Arthur passes through.
