Riders to the Sea
On an island off the west of Ireland two sisters hide a bundle of clothes taken from a drowned man found in the north, while their mother goes down to the shore to stop the last of her sons riding to the Galway fair. She has already given a husband and five sons to the water. Written in one act out of what Synge saw and heard on Aran, and often called the finest short tragedy in English.
