Walter Scott · 1817 CE · Novel · English · Romantic
Frank Osbaldistone refuses a desk in his father's counting house and is sent north to his uncle's Northumberland estate, where his cousin Rashleigh takes the place he declined. Missing bills and a cousin he cannot read carry him to Glasgow and then into the Highlands on the eve of the 1715 rising. Bailie Nicol Jarvie and the outlawed MacGregor split the book between commerce and clan.
