The Bride of Lammermoor

Walter Scott · 1819 CE · Novel · English · Romantic

Edgar Ravenswood has lost his family's lands to the lawyer Sir William Ashton and has sworn to get them back, until a wild bull on the moor puts Ashton's daughter Lucy in his path. The two pledge themselves at a fountain the old prophecies warn about, and Lucy's mother comes home. Scott built it from a real Dalrymple family scandal and gave it the shape of a Greek tragedy.
