Wuthering Heights

William Wyler · 1939 CE · Film · Modern / American · Modernist

A stable boy taken in by a Yorkshire family grows up bound to the daughter of the house, who will not marry beneath her; he vanishes, returns rich, and sets about ruining everyone who ever humiliated him. Wyler shot the moors on a California ranch under imported heather and drilled Olivier out of his stage manner take by take. Only the first half of Brontë's book reaches the screen.
