Jezebel

William Wyler · 1938 CE · Film · Modern / American · Modernist

A New Orleans belle in 1852 wears a red dress to the Olympus Ball to spite her fiancé, and learns that a gesture made in front of an entire city cannot be withdrawn once he has left for the North. Yellow fever then reaches the parish and the quarantine island begins to fill. Wyler shot the scandalous gown in black and white and let the room's reaction supply the colour; Davis took her second Academy Award for it.
