The Best Years of Our Lives

William Wyler · 1946 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

Three servicemen share a nose-turret ride back to Boone City: an infantry sergeant returning to a bank job, a bombardier to a wife he married in ten days, and a sailor who lost both hands. Each finds the town has arranged itself without him, and Wyler holds the reunions in long deep-focus takes. Harold Russell, a veteran with hooks for hands and no training, was cast off an Army rehabilitation reel.
