Ben-Hur
A Jewish prince in Roman Judaea refuses to name agitators to the boyhood friend now commanding the garrison, and is sent to the galleys while his mother and sister disappear into a cell. Years at an oar, a sea battle and an Arab sheikh's horses bring him back to Jerusalem and a chariot race against the man who condemned him. Its eleven Academy Awards stood unmatched for thirty-eight years.
