Isabella, or the Pot of Basil
Two Florentine merchant brothers, whose ledgers run on factories and forced labour in far countries, discover that their sister loves the young man they employ and propose a ride out with him one morning. She waits, sickening, until a figure comes to her at night and tells her plainly where to look. Keats versified the fifth tale of Boccaccio's fourth day and later disowned the result as too weak-sided, though it is where his social anger first shows.
