The Fall of Hyperion
A dreamer wakes in a forest beside the remains of a feast, drinks a transparent juice, and finds himself in an enormous sanctuary whose eastern end holds an altar and a flight of steps he must climb before the cold reaches his heart. The veiled priestess who lets him live tells him that none come there but those to whom the misery of the world is misery and will not let them rest, then lifts her veil. Keats recast his abandoned epic as a dream vision while reading Cary's Dante, left it unfinished, and it stayed unpublished until 1856.
