Bright Star
The speaker envies a star its steadfastness but not its lonely watch over moving waters and new-fallen snow on the moors, wanting the constancy without the solitude. What he asks for instead is to be still unchangeable while pillowed on his love's ripening breast, feeling its soft fall and swell forever. Long taken for Keats's last work and written for Fanny Brawne, it was in fact drafted around 1819 and copied into a volume of Shakespeare on the voyage to Italy.
