Summertime
J. M. Coetzee · 2009 CE · Novel · South African · Contemporary
A young English biographer interviews five people who knew the novelist John Coetzee in Cape Town in the 1970s, after his death. Their accounts of a withdrawn, awkward man living with his father are set against notebook fragments in the writer's own voice. The book closes Coetzee's three volumes of fictionalised memoir and was shortlisted for the 2009 Booker Prize.
