The Hollow Men

T. S. Eliot · 1925 CE · Poem · English · Modernist

Stuffed men with heads full of straw gather in a dry cellar at the edge of a dead land, whispering together in voices that carry no meaning. Fragments of prayer, nursery rhyme and ritual keep breaking off between the intention and the act. The epigraphs pair Conrad's news of Kurtz with the cry of children begging pennies for a Guy Fawkes effigy.
