Murder in the Cathedral
Returning from seven years of exile in France, an archbishop is met at Canterbury by four tempters who offer him pleasure, power, alliance with the barons, and last and worst the glory of doing the right deed for the wrong reason. A chorus of poor women would rather he had stayed away, since whatever falls on the great falls hardest on them. Written for the Canterbury Festival and staged in the chapter house yards from where Becket was killed in 1170.
