The Homecoming

Harold Pinter · 1965 CE · Play · English · Contemporary

A philosophy professor brings his wife back from America to the North London house where his father, his uncle and his two brothers have lived for years without a woman in it. She is met with insults, then courtesy, then a proposition the family puts to her as a piece of business and discusses in front of her husband. The pauses at full strength, and the point at which Pinter turned the comedy of menace on the family itself.
