The Progress of Love

Alice Munro · 1986 CE · Short Story · Modern / American · Contemporary

A real-estate agent driving out to her father's farm one last time turns over the family story about her mother feeding an inheritance into the stove rather than take money from a man she never forgave. Elsewhere a couple drive their daughters across Montana in 1961, and a woman finds her neighbours dead and tells the police remarkably little. Munro's third Governor General's Award, and the book where one memory has two incompatible tellings.
