Dance of the Happy Shades

Alice Munro · 1968 CE · Short Story · Modern / American · Contemporary

A travelling salesman takes his daughter along the back roads of Huron County and detours, without explaining, to a farmhouse where a woman he once knew puts a record on. Elsewhere a girl who prefers the fox pens to the kitchen learns what her help is worth to her father, and an ageing piano teacher holds her annual recital. Munro's first collection took the Governor General's Award and set out the ground she never left.
