The Tooth of Crime

Sam Shepard · 1972 CE · Play · Modern / American · Contemporary

Hoss is a killer of the top rank in a game scored like the record charts, insulated by his handlers, his astrologer and his cars, and word comes that a Gypsy working outside the system is moving on his turf. When Crow arrives the knife fight is downgraded to a duel of styles, fought in language before a referee, and each man tries on the other's walk and voice. Shepard's rock-and-roll gangster fable, first staged at the Open Space in London and later rebuilt by him as Tooth of Crime (Second Dance).
