Fool for Love

Sam Shepard · 1983 CE · Play · Modern / American · Contemporary

May has holed up in a motel room at the edge of the Mojave and Eddie has driven a long way with a horse trailer to take her back, and neither of them can get through the door and stay gone. On the periphery an Old Man sits with a bottle, seen by the two of them and by nobody else, correcting each account they give of how they first met. Written for the Magic Theatre in San Francisco, where Shepard was resident playwright, and the play that turned his family territory in on a single couple.
