The Wasps
An old man's addiction is jury pay, and his son has netted the house and posted slaves at the doors to keep him from the courts. His fellow jurors arrive at dawn with their stings out to free him, and the settlement reached is a tribunal in the front yard where the household dog is prosecuted for stealing cheese. The sharpest of the comedies about the Athenian courts as an instrument in Cleon's hand, and the one that leans hardest on Aesop in its closing scenes.
