The Knights
Two household slaves, thinly disguised as the generals of Athens, work out that the Paphlagonian tanner who has flattered his way into their master's favour can only be beaten by a man still coarser than he is. They find a sausage-seller in the street and set him to outbid the demagogue in bribes, stolen oracles and shamelessness before old Demos himself, who stands for the Athenian people. The one comedy aimed from first line to last at a single living politician, staged while Cleon was at the height of his power.
