There's a certain Slant of light

Emily Dickinson · 1890 CE · Poem · Modern / American · Victorian

On winter afternoons a certain slant of light oppresses like the weight of cathedral tunes, and it gives a heavenly hurt that leaves no scar, only an internal difference where the meanings are. None may teach it anything, being the seal despair sent from the air, an imperial affliction. When it comes the landscape listens and the shadows hold their breath, and Todd and Higginson tidied its dashes away for the first posthumous selection.
