I'm Nobody! Who are you?

Emily Dickinson · 1891 CE · Poem · Modern / American · Victorian

The speaker announces herself as Nobody, asks whether the reader is Nobody too, and on getting the answer proposes a conspiracy of two — they must not tell, or they would be advertised. How dreary to be Somebody, and how public, like a frog telling its name the livelong June. Four lines and then four more, chosen by Todd and Higginson for the second posthumous series.
