Distant Relations
Over a long lunch at the Automobile Club de France an old count tells a younger writer about a Mexican archaeologist and his son who met their exact counterparts in Paris, a French father and son carrying the same name, and about a child found in a Caribbean garden. Each teller passes the account on because holding it alone is unbearable. His most Jamesian construction, built entirely of nested narration.
