Chac Mool
A drowned clerk's friend reads the diary recovered from his trunk: a cheap replica of the rain god, bought in a flea market and kept in the cellar, begins to sweat, then to soften, then to walk. The pipes burst, the collector ends up sleeping on a mat, and the household budget starts covering rouge and lotions for a stone that has learned to age. An early statement of Fuentes's one subject.
