Aura

Carlos Fuentes · 1962 CE · Novel · Latin American · Contemporary

Answering an advertisement that names his exact qualifications, a young historian moves into a shuttered house on Donceles Street to edit the memoirs of a general sixty years dead, at the dictation of his widow, who is a hundred and nine. The old woman's green-eyed niece keeps doing whatever she does, half a second later. Narrated throughout in the second person and the future tense.
