Rebecca
Alfred Hitchcock · 1940 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary
A paid companion on the Riviera marries a widower inside a fortnight and arrives at his Cornish estate to find the housekeeper keeping the first wife's rooms exactly as they were, down to the monogrammed nightdress case. The second wife is never given a name. Hitchcock's first American production, made under Selznick's supervision and against his wishes on almost every point, and the only one of his to win best picture.
