Extravagaria

Pablo Neruda · 1958 CE · Poem · Latin American · Contemporary

The poet asks everybody on earth to count to twelve and keep still for one minute, no engines running, no arms raised, no fishermen hurting whales, insisting that he means not death but a stop. Elsewhere he calls for his brave self and a coward turns up, he rehearses his own funeral, he watches horses come through the snow at a Berlin window. The most private of the middle books, and the one he said he was fondest of.
