The Decay of the Angel

Yukio Mishima · 1971 CE · Novel · Japanese · Contemporary

An old Honda, walking the coast at Shimizu in 1970, finds a sixteen-year-old orphan working a signal station, logging the ships into the bay and carrying three moles under one arm. He adopts the boy and waits to learn whether the sign means what he has spent fifty years believing. Mishima delivered the manuscript on the morning of 25 November 1970 and went on to Ichigaya, where his coup failed and he died.
