Forbidden Colors

Yukio Mishima · 1953 CE · Novel · Japanese · Contemporary

An ageing novelist whom three women have made ridiculous meets a young man of perfect beauty who cannot desire women at all, and pays him to marry, to be adored, and to ruin each of them in turn. Yuichi moves between a wife, his patron's money and the bars of occupied Tokyo, learning by degrees what his face is worth. Mishima's fullest treatment of beauty as a weapon held in somebody else's hand.
