The Sound of Waves
On a small island in the Bay of Ise an eighteen-year-old fisherman sees an unfamiliar girl hauling in the day's catch and learns she is the daughter of the richest man on the rock, brought home to be married off. They meet at a ruined watchtower above the harbour, the village talks, and the boy is sent out on a freighter. Written after Mishima's first journey to Greece, and his sunniest book.
