Mary Rose

J. M. Barrie · 1920 CE · Play · English · Modernist

A small Hebridean island the local people will not name has taken a child once and given her back with no memory of the days she was gone. Years later, married and a mother herself, she persuades her husband to take her out to it again. Written after the war took one of the Llewelyn Davies boys Barrie had brought up, it makes a ghost story out of the wish that nothing be allowed to change.
