Matilda

Roald Dahl · 1988 CE · Novel · English · Contemporary

A child who taught herself to read at three and had emptied the children's shelf of the village library by four is treated as a scab by parents who sell cut-and-shut cars and eat in front of the television. School proves worse: a headmistress and former hammer-thrower who swings girls by their pigtails, and one gentle teacher who notices what the child can do. The last book Dahl finished in his lifetime.
