The Second Jungle Book

Rudyard Kipling · 1895 CE · Short Story · English · Victorian

Eight further tales, five of them Mowgli's: a drought that puts a water truce on the shrinking river, a buried hoard under the ruins guarded by a white cobra who has forgotten what money buys, and a village that decides the boy raised by wolves is a sorcerer worth stoning. Elsewhere an Inuit hunter walks out after seal in a famine winter and an elephant-boy is taken to watch a dance no human is meant to see. Kipling wrote the Mowgli stories out of sequence, and the ones here look at the Law from further outside it.
