James and the Giant Peach

Roald Dahl · 1961 CE · Novel · English · Contemporary

An orphan kept by two cruel aunts on a hilltop in the south of England is handed a bag of glowing green crocodile tongues, spills them at the roots of a barren peach tree, and watches one fruit swell until it is larger than the house. Inside it a grasshopper, a spider, a centipede and a glow-worm are waiting, and the stem is about to give way. Dahl's first book for children set the pattern for everything after it.
