The Reivers
William Faulkner · 1962 CE · Novel · Modern / American · Modernist
In 1905 an eleven-year-old in Jefferson is talked into borrowing his grandfather's new motor car by a hired hand, and a part-Chickasaw cousin turns up having stowed away under the tarpaulin. Four days take the three of them through a mud hole worked as a business, a Memphis boarding house and a horse race the car has been traded for. Told by the boy as an old man to his own grandson, and published a month before Faulkner died.
