The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

Mark Twain · 1876 CE · Novel · Modern / American · Victorian

A boy in a sleepy Mississippi river town talks the neighbourhood into whitewashing his aunt's fence for him, courts a judge's daughter, and slips out at midnight to the graveyard with Huckleberry Finn to cure warts. What they witness there puts an innocent man on trial and leaves a murderer loose, and the summer takes in a pirate island, a funeral and a cave. Twain's boyhood idyll, written for adults and read ever since by everybody else.
