Nostromo

Joseph Conrad · 1904 CE · Novel · English · Modernist

In the invented South American republic of Costaguana, revolution threatens the San Tomé silver mine on which an English owner has staked his fortune and his marriage. A shipment of silver is put in the hands of Nostromo, the Italian foreman the town trusts with everything because he has never been known to fail. Conrad's largest political novel, in which material interests bend every ideal in the republic they built.
