Shower

Hwang Sun-wŏn · 1953 CE · Short Story · Korean · Contemporary

A village boy keeps finding the same girl sitting on the stepping stones across the stream, a great-granddaughter of the Yun family down from Seoul, and she will not move aside for him. They go up the hill behind the fields for flowers and a ride on a calf, and a cloudburst catches them a long way from any house, so he carries her across the risen water on his back. Set for Korean schoolchildren for sixty years, and the piece by which its author is known at home.
