The Bride of Messina
The widowed princess of Messina brings her two sons together to end the feud they have kept since childhood, and each is secretly in love with the same girl from a convent outside the city. Their father once dreamt that a daughter would destroy his house and gave the order accordingly; their mother dreamt otherwise and disobeyed him. Schiller restored the Greek chorus to the modern stage here.
